🌟 Evening Stage Shows

🎭 Kathakali – Kerala’s Classical Dance-Drama

Kathakali is a traditional Indian classical dance form that originated in Kerala. It is known for its elaborate costumes, intricate makeup, and expressive gestures. The performances are based on themes from Hindu epics like the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Dancers use a combination of facial expressions, hand gestures, and body movements to convey stories, accompanied by music and percussion instruments.


🥋 Kalari – Kalaripayattu Martial Art Demonstration

Kalaripayattu is an ancient Indian martial art that originated in Kerala. It is considered one of the oldest fighting systems in existence. The practice includes strikes, kicks, grappling, weaponry, and healing techniques. Training takes place in a specialized arena called a ‘kalari’, and practitioners follow a guru-shishya (teacher-student) tradition.


🐘 Elephant Safari at Periyar


The Elephant Safari at Periyar offers a truly memorable way to explore the lush beauty of Kerala’s famed spice plantations. This unique 30-minute experience is conducted within a large, scenic cardamom plantation located near the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Guests embark on a gentle ride atop well-cared-for, trained elephants, providing an elevated perspective of the rich green surroundings.

Border Hiking is a conservation-centered, full-day trekking program that ventures into the remote edges of the Periyar Tiger Reserve. Traversing altitudes between 900 meters and 1300 meters, participants walk through varied landscapes such as grasslands, forests, and hillocks. The experience is physically demanding but rewarding, offering possibilities to sight wildlife like elephants, Indian gaur (bison), sloth bears, and an incredible range of endemic birds. Led by trained guides and armed forest watchers, Border Hiking emphasizes responsible tourism while offering participants breathtaking views of the Western Ghats.


🚣 Bamboo Rafting

Bamboo Rafting is one of the most serene yet adventurous ways to explore Periyar’s wilderness. Beginning with a trek across lush forest trails, participants then board sturdy bamboo rafts to glide over the tranquil waters of Periyar Lake. The rafting journey provides a rare, waterside view of the reserve’s hills and forests, where herds of elephants, sambar deer, and birdlife often come to the shores. The Jungle Patrol experience invites participants to join the night guards of the Periyar Tiger Reserve for a nighttime protection walk. 🐅 Periyar Tiger Trail

The Periyar Tiger Trail is one of the reserve’s most adventurous offerings, combining trekking with wilderness camping. Uniquely, this program is led by former poachers who have now become passionate protectors of the forest. Their deep knowledge of the terrain and wildlife tracking adds an authentic touch to the experience. Participants cover several kilometers a day, setting up camp deep within the forest, and may encounter wildlife such as elephants, tigers, wild boars, and many others. The Tiger Trail is an excellent opportunity to understand conservation efforts while relishing the thrill of true jungle adventure.

The Tribal Heritage Programme provides a cultural journey into the lives of the indigenous tribal communities living around Periyar. Visitors are guided through traditional tribal hamlets, where they can observe age-old practices such as medicinal plant use, handicraft making, and subsistence farming.
